The useful starting point
A useful comparison includes the diamond and the finished ring. Ask both jewellers for the same specifications and the final amount payable. Carat weight alone leaves out important differences in the stone, setting and support.
Start with the individual diamond
Record whether it is natural or laboratory-grown, its exact carat weight and shape, colour, clarity and applicable cut grade. For a round brilliant described as 3EX, check cut, polish and symmetry separately. Confirm the laboratory and report number for the selected stone.
Then compare the setting
Specify the metal and purity, prong or other setting style, ring size, and any side stones. Our standard natural-ring prices include 18k white gold; platinum costs extra. A quotation for a loose diamond is different from one for a complete ring.
Agree the total and the next steps
Ask for the complete total, quotation validity, availability, production timing, payment and change terms, and included after-sales support. Do not assume a service is free unless it is stated. Confirm the selling company and invoice details in your quotation.
